PPE – Mandatory Safety Wear at Work

In order to prevent/reduce the likelihood of an accident, it is mandatory for all employers to provide PPE, which is also known as personal protective equipment at the workplace. This protective safety wear includes footwear, hats, visibility jackets or waistcoats, respirators, goggles, and gloves.

According to the Work Regulation Act, PPE refers to, 'All equipment which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work which protects them against one or more risks to their health and safety'. The best PPE for companies is really mandatory nowadays.

Employers are responsible to provide, implement, replace, and pay for all expenses incurred for installing any PPE equipment at the workplace. These types of personal protective equipment are generally waterproof, weatherproof, or insulated to protect the user from adverse temperature or climatic conditions that pose a threat to their health and safety.

Accidents in the form of skin injuries often occur due to skin contact with chemical agents, physical agents, biological agents, and mechanical errors. Therefore, skin protection such as face shields gloves, safety footwear, and jackets act as a form of barrier between the skin and the different agents that are harmful to the body.

Examples of these substances contaminated surfaces, solar radiation, extreme temperatures, friction, parasites, aerosol deposition, chemical splash, etc.
